Microneedling
Bellus Medical SkinPen® microneedling procedures allow for the controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism, triggering new collagen synthesis. The benefits of microneedling treatments can include improvement in acne scarring and surgical scars, lightening of melasma and hyperpigmentation, fine line reduction, improved pore size, and smoother, younger-looking skin. It can be used anywhere on the body, with very few exceptions. Due to the variable depths at which the SkinPen® needles can be adjusted, it is designed for use by licensed healthcare professionals, ensuring safe and effective results.
What to Expect
Microneedling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile needle head. A numbing cream is applied to the treatment area(s) for 30 minutes, and the skin is then cleansed thoroughly prior to starting the procedure. The SkinPen is then applied to the skin, moving across the treatment area. Most treatments will involve two “passes” over each area. Treatment times range from 30-60 minutes, depending on the required procedure and anatomical site(s) being treated.
Immediately after treatment the skin is red, dry, tight and mildly sensitive to touch, similar to a moderate sunburn. These effects diminish significantly within a few hours. Makeup may be worn after 24 hours. After 4 days there is rarely any evidence that the procedure has taken place. Sweaty exercise and sun exposure should be avoided for 72 hours after each treatment.
In order to optimize results, clients are required to purchase take-home skin care products for daily use. These products are offered at a discounted cost when purchased as part of a microneedling treatment.
Clients may require 3-6 treatments, performed every 4 weeks, to achieve the desired results. As the skin’s natural degradation occurs over time, clients may choose to receive repeat treatments every 1-2 years to maintain their results.
