Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method
A Medically Developed Program with a Beginning, Middle and End
Medical Aesthetics of Muskoka delivers the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method, a medically designed and supervised program that promotes weight loss, while sparing lean mass. It was developed in France, by Dr. Tran Tien Chanh, over 25 years ago, and has been implemented around the world. The company is based in Gatineau, Quebec.
The program’s ultimate goal is to address issues surrounding metabolic syndrome (obesity, blood sugar issues, cholesterol problems and high blood pressure). This is accomplished by addressing insulin dysfunction, which has often resulted from the disproportionate consumption of refined/processed carbohydrates and saturated fats. The protocol consists of 4 phases:
Phase 1: intervention phase, which puts dieters in ketosis (the process of using the body’s fat reserves to fuel itself)
Phase 2: slows ketosis down and prepares the body to return to a balanced diet
Phase 3: reintroduces carbohydrates and fats to the diet
Phase 4: maintenance or Ideal Lifestyle diet
During phases 1 and 2, dieters primarily consume vegetables and foods with a high protein value. Carbohydrate rich foods (such as dairy, fruit, grains, starchy vegetables, processed foods) and fats are strictly prohibited.
The Ideal Protein method is NOT A HIGH PROTEIN DIET. Adequate levels of protein are maintained, while the amounts of fats and carbohydrates are restricted. To replace the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in some of these restricted foods, dieters take supplements (multivitamin, calcium and magnesium, Omega 3, potassium) to ensure they are acquiring the recommended daily amounts.
The centrepiece of the program is the protein-based foods, which the dieter consumes during phases 1 to 3, along with vegetables and salads. The protein packs are easily incorporated into busy lifestyles, and include foods that are crunchy, chewy, hearty, smooth, sweet, spicy and salty.
Dieters meet with an Ideal Protein coach weekly to review their progress, discuss challenges, and acquire the following week’s food. During the meetings, the dieter can expect to gain an understanding of:
- the mechanism needed to trigger fat loss
- the impact food has on the body
- how to identify food combinations that may promote fat storage
